Yellowstone has opened the door to a world of possibilities for Taylor Sheridan, and one of the many projects the producer/writer/director has lined up is already trying to avoid comparisons to the (formerly) Kevin Costner-led show. Sheridan’s neo-Western drama, which he co-created with John Linson, has been a massive success for the filmmaker. Over the course of Yellowstone‘s five seasons, the series has received critical acclaim and achieved a dedicated following, resulting in Paramount betting on Sheridan with a years-long deal to create new content for the company.

With the success of Yellowstone came spinoffs, including 1883, 1923, and many more on the way. However, Sheridan’s TV shows outside the Yellowstone universe, which are nothing like the neo-Western drama, have also thrived. The filmmaker has been quite busy in recent years as he keeps churning out new content for Paramount, including Landman​​​​​, an upcoming Paramount+ series that can be seen as a replacement for Yellowstone despite its one major difference from the older show.

Landman Is Set In West Texas

Paramount released the first trailer for Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western drama TV show Landman, and the first look at the series immediately displays how it will separate itself from Yellowstone. While Yellowstone is set in Montana,Landman takes place in West Texas, meaning the aesthetics of the two shows are completely different. Yes, they are both neo-Western dramas and come from the same producer, but a Western TV series in Montana looks nothing like a Western show in West Texas.

Even though Landman can serve as a replacement for Yellowstone , it’s certainly not a carbon copy of [Taylor] Sheridan’s older series.

Unlike the Dutton Ranch, Landman‘s setting is void of any color or greenery. It’s dull, flat, and brown, which makes sense because of the climate and desert-like atmosphere where the story takes place. So, even though Landman can serve as a replacement for Yellowstone, it’s certainly not a carbon copy of Sheridan’s older series.

Landman is set to premiere on November 17, 2024, on Paramount+ (exactly one week after Yellowstone season 5, part 2’s release date). Given that its debut is over two months away, it’s too early to tell if Landman can attain the same level of success that Yellowstone has experienced in the past six years. Nevertheless, the odds are looking good for Taylor Sheridan’s new TV show.

These days, it’s almost always safe to bet on the success of a project that has Sheridan’s name tied to it. The filmmaker’s achievements know no bounds, and Landman could be his next triumph. Plus, similar to Yellowstone, Landman‘s cast is wildly impressive as it includes Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm, who are all capable of pulling in viewers by their names alone.
