Reiss Colwell’s (Jonny Freeman) murderous actions catch-up with him in EastEnders next week when the police arrive with news about his dead wife Debbie.
If you’re like us, you’re probably still reeling after witnessing Reiss smother his comatose wife Debbie earlier this week.
In an act of desperation, with his monetary woes worsening, he saw no other way out of paying her care home bills.
He’d used up all the funds from the sale of their house to pay for girlfriend Sonia Fowler’s (Natalie Cassidy) IVF, and decided to scam Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) as a means to pay for his debts.
After breaking down at Debbie’s bedside, he told her that she lived a ‘pitiful, pointless half life’ and, after wishing her dead so he could start over in life, placed a pillow over her face.
We then saw Sonia clash with her ex-husband Martin (James Bye) and cousin Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa), as she remained blissfully unaware of what Reiss was capable of.
In upcoming scenes, the police arrive with news that Debbie’s post-mortem is complete – and it seems that he’s got away with it!
Elsewhere, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) demands a return on his ‘investment’ that he made, forcing Reiss to admit to a shocked Sonia that he stole money from the Walford hard man.
Later, at the hospital, the pair run into Debbie’s parents Brenda and Hugh and things quickly turn tense when they begin to ask some pressing questions to their former son-in-law.
Sonia is taken aback when she offers her condolences and Reiss introduces her as his landlady – concealing the truth about their relationship.
