This article contains spoilers for Thursday’s (20 June) episode of EastEnders, which is available on BBC iPlayer now.
Yolande Trueman’s (Angela Wynter) decision to report Pastor Clayton’s (Howard Saddler) sexual assault on her led to his arrest in scenes airing on Thursday’s EastEnders.
Earlier this week, soap fans saw Yolande come face to face with her abuser at Jordan Fox’s baptism, with a conversation with Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris) finally giving her the courage to go to the
police.
During Thursday’s episode, Yolande’s family were desperately searching for her after she walked out of the baptism, but viewers saw her giving an emotional statement to an officer at the Walford Police Station.
Yolande was forced to relive her ordeal once again, however, when she was told she’d need to be formally interviewed at a sexual assault clinic, which would be filmed as evidence.
Able to have someone there to support her, Yolande called upon Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe), who was there for her on the night of her assault.
Meanwhile, back at the Trueman-Fox house, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) tried to get Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) to open up about what has been going on, to which he tearfully told her he’d failed his wife.
Yolande eventually returned home, much to the relief of her family, who she then gathered to tell them about what the Pastor did to her.
Horrified to learn what Yolande had been through, Denise rushed off to confront the Pastor at the community centre, with the rest of the family in hot pursuit.
However, as they arrived, they discovered the police were already there to arrest him for his crimes.
Yolande then watched on as her abuser was carried off in cuffs, as he looked her in the eye and claimed that whoever had reported him “was lying”.
Will the Pastor finally face justice? And will more of his victims now come forward?
