EastEnders has brought back countless iconic characters since producer Chris Clenshaw has been at the helm, but that hasn’t stopped fans asking for more.
Actress Louisa Lytton, who played Ruby Allen for a year between 2005 and 2006, before reprising her role in 2018 until 2021, recently shared how often she is asked by fans if she plans to return –
and it is a lot.
While hosting a Q&A on her Instagram Stories, Louisa revealed that she gets asked about an EastEnders return ‘600,000,000 times a day’.
During her time in Albert Square, character Ruby was part of some hard-hitting storylines.
The daughter of notorious gangster Johnny Allen, Ruby instantly befriended Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner), though in later years their friendship would dissolve completely after Ruby began dating Martin Fowler (James Bye).
The pair soon became embroiled in a bitter feud, with Ruby arranging for Stacey to be attacked.
During an altercation, Ruby, who had suffered a miscarriage several days before, fell down the stairs. However, she accused Stacey of pushing her and cited this as the cause of her miscarriage – resulting in Stacey being sent to prison.
After the truth was exposed, Martin refused to believe that she was pregnant again, and Ruby ended up going to prison and giving birth off-screen.
Also during her tenure, Ruby was at the centre of a powerful episode that focused on the topic of consent, amid a storyline that saw her come to the realisation that she had been raped by two of Martin’s school friends. In her Instagram post, actress Louisa gave no suggestion as to whether or not she would return to the show, but anything is possible.
This week, it was announced that Tracy-Ann Oberman would be reprising her role as iconic murderer Chrissie Watts.
Chrissie brutally killed husband Dirty Den back in 2005, and was sent to prison when her crime was finally exposed.
What brings her back to the Square remains a mystery, and the character will only be on-screen for a short stint.
