Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) was seemingly won over by Dean Wicks’ (Matt Di Angelo) false version of events in last week’s EastEnders scenes, but tonight (March 25) saw her finally get to the bottom of his vile actions.
Dean has been tampering with ailing daughter Jade Masood’s (Elizabeth Green) antibiotics in a bid to stop her from moving to Pakistan with mum Shabnam, though his actions had devastating consequences when she collapsed in recent scenes.
It was when Jade was admitted to hospital that Jean began to grow suspicious of Dean, though he soon covered his actions by blaming Jade for not taking her medication.
However, when Dean discharged Jade from the hospital against doctors’ orders, Jean was once again concerned, though he tried to convince her that it had been the doctor’s choice.
While Dean was distracted by an interview with a reporter, Jean chatted with Jade in a bid to get her side of the story.
It soon became very clear to her that Dean had lied, as Jade admitted that she really wanted to get better and move to Pakistan with her mum.
Things only got more concerning for Jean when Jade revealed that Dean was in charge of giving her her antibiotics, and soon Jean confided her worries in Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman).
However, Harvey wasn’t sure what to make of the situation, having previously been told by Dean that Jean was exhibiting worrying mental health symptoms, and told her that she should probably go home and get some rest.
Jean wasn’t prepared to give up so easily though, and was soon investigating Jade’s antibiotics herself.
It didn’t take her long to realise that something was wrong, and when she opened up one of the capsules she found that it had been emptied.
Horrified that Dean had deliberately tampered with Jade’s medication, she tried to get Jade to leave the flat and come home with her, but was unfortunately interrupted by Dean’s arrival.
Jean wasted no time in confronting Dean over his actions, but he turned the tables and began questioning why she would want to hurt Jade. With Dean clearly prepared to place the blame on Jean, will he ever be found out?
