Jonny Freeman – who plays Reiss Colwell on BBC soap EastEnders – has teased
his future in the Square when Reiss and Sonia find themselves being arrested for murder
EastEnders star Jonny Freeman has teased more about Reiss’ future on the soap amid double exit fears.
Jonny plays Reiss on the BBC soap and has been happily dating Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) until the shock secret that he had a secret wife was revealed. Debbie has been in a coma for years, but recently met a grisly end when Reiss killed her as the debt for paying for her care continued to rack up. He has been desperate to get away with his crime, but both Sonia and Reiss find themselves arrested this week – as the police can prove Debbie did not die of natural causes.
This has led to fans being fearful a double exit may be on the cards for the pair, but Jonny has defended his character, insisting Reiss is not bad and has just made mistakes. He said: “I think for Reiss it’s very much a love story. As any great love story, you stick by the person you’re with. I think Reiss is scared she might not stick with him. He’s made a few poor choices.
Reiss and Sonia are in trouble
“Soaps represent real life – there might be some extreme edges to it but rather than out of morals or baddies and goodies, I think he’s a good person under huge pressure making bad choices. Those choices then build up and he makes it worse and worse and worse to cover his tracks. I’m not sure he’s out of morals, I think he’s making a hash of it.”
Jonny also teased more about the future for both his character Reiss and Sonia. Asked if he would let Sonia go down for what’s he done, he simply said: “You’ll have to tune in!” before adding: “To advocate for Reiss – in his mind, I think he’s doing it because he does see a better future with Sonia and he wants them to have a life together and a baby together.
“Perhaps the way he’s going about that, with the issues he’s got going on, it might not be the best.”
We are yet to find out how it’ll all play out, but it isn’t looking good for Sonia as EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy is embarking on a new adventure. She will head over to Channel 4 for her new role where she will front a four-part series titled What’s The Big Deal?
