EastEnders star Tracy-Ann Oberman is taking to the stage in a production of The Merchant of Venice 1936.
The show is a reimagining of Shakespeare’s classic play The Merchant of Venice. Adapted by Brigid Larmour and Tracy-Ann Oberman, it is set in 1930s Britain, with Oberman playing the lead.
The official synopsis reads: “Tensions in London’s East End are rising and Shylock (Oberman), a resilient single mother and hard-working businesswoman, is desperate to protect her daughter’s future.”

It continues: “When the charismatic merchant Antonio comes to her for a loan, a high-stakes deal is struck. Will Shylock take her revenge, and who will pay the ultimate price?
“If you prick us do we not bleed? If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge?”
The show is returning to London’s West End for four weeks, due to popular demand, before touring the UK. Tickets are available on ATG from £20 (plus a transaction fee of £3.50), for shows running from Saturday, December 28, 2024, to Saturday, January 25, 2025.

It was recently announced that Oberman would be returning to EastEnders after nearly 20 years away from the Square.
The actor played Chrissie Watts and was a central character in her husband Den’s dramatic murder plot. Chrissie was eventually imprisoned, and details around her return are currently being kept secret.
