Maya Houssain’s (Bharti Patel) real motives for her friendship with Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) have so far remained a mystery since her arrival in EastEnders last month.
But Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) gets one step closer to the truth next week, as she makes a shock discovery about her partner’s new BFF.
Jean’s jealousy flares up when Harvey and Maya arrange to meet at The Vic to watch the England match, but during the game, Maya gets a headache, and they head over to the Slater house.
At number 31, Maya is on the charm offensive, and is extra nice to Jean, who finds herself starting to warm to Harvey’s new friend – but things don’t stay that way for long.
When Maya goes to the kitchen to make a cup of tea, Jean wonders what is taking her so long and goes to check on her, but is stunned by what she finds…
Just what has Jean walked in on?There has been much speculation about the character of Maya and if there is more to her than meets the eye, having mysteriously rocked up in Albert Square and quickly formed a bond with Harvey over their shared love of football. During a recent conversation earlier this month, Maya opened up to Harvey about how her husband had recently passed away – which got viewers thinking.
When Harvey had earlier asked Tommy Moon (Sonny Kendall) to help look for Maya online after losing her number, it was revealed that her surname is Hussain – a name that will be familiar to EastEnders fans.
Back in 2021, Harvey’s son Aaron Monroe was involved in a far-right gang who targeted numerous people in racial hate crimes. One of their victims was a taxi driver called Mr Hussain, who thankfully survived the incident, but was left seriously injured.
After tipping Harvey for dropping her back off in Albert Square, Maya confirmed that her husband used to be a cabby, sparking suspicion from fans that he may have been the man Harvey’s son attacked – is Maya out for revenge?
